The project will also include a renovation to a portion of the Crop Science Field Lab at USask to provide additional workspace for the CDC. Construction is underway and is expected to be completed in July 2026. “We are grateful to all of our partners and government supporters who have contributed to this important infrastructure project,” said USask President and Vice-Chancellor Peter Stoicheff. “These new facilities will be instrumental in advancing critical agricultural research and will set the stage for addressing global challenges as we aim to be the university the world needs.” Named after USask alumnus Dr. James Bishop Harrington (PhD), a member of… ...[TheTopNews] Read More.1 day ago
- USask graduate embraces digital agriculture for career successWard will officially receive her Diploma in Agronomy and Certificate in Precision Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan’s (USask) Spring Convocation on June 4. The Precision Agriculture Certificate is offered by the USask College of Agriculture and Bioresources (AgBio) and is open to undergraduate students across disciplines such as engineering and computer science. Students learn about the technologies used in precision agriculture (satellite imagery, global positioning systems, etc.) to measure and manage variability in crop production to increase both yield and sustainability. A summer job at her local Co-op Agro Centre inspired Ward to add the certificate onto her agronomy diploma program. “This summer position is where I first used a digital scouting app to make field scouting reports,” said Ward. “I realized how useful digital agronomy is to agronomists and growers.” Ward utilized Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS) software in the lab portion of the certific ...[TheTopNews] Read More.1 day ago

- Forage Rejuvenation: Fertilization and the Influence of Soil pHThe Rejuvenation of Hay & Pasture page on BeefResearch.ca has been “rejuvenated” to include more content relevant to Eastern Canadian producers. Updated information has also been added for the various methods of rejuvenating forages in regions across the country. Rejuvenation of a forage stand, whether hay or pasture, involves using one or a combination of methods to increase productivity with a shift towards higher yielding forage species that provide improved nutritional value for livestock. If an assessment of the current forage stand shows that there is not enough of a desired plant species, then fertilization can be an effective tool to reinvigorate and increase forage yields. Starting with a soil test, improving nutrient deficiencies can increase forage production. Before making the investment in fertilizer, soil pH should be accounted for in conjunction with fertilizer plans—in the event of low soil pH, nutrients may be present in the soil but unavailable… ...[TheTopNews] Read More.2 days ago
