A gruesome looking crash Thursday into gas pumps at a north side La Crosse Kwik Trip ends up being part of an earlier police incident. Andrew Hermes not only was arrested for OWI after the 8:41 a.m. crash that left the Mercedes looking like a harmonica but police said that was the same car that fled “at a high rate of speed” from an officer earlier — though they didn’t say when that took place. No other vehicles or people were involved in the crash. The 25-year-old Hermes sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Hermes, from La Crosse, was arrested for OWI, attempting to flee/elude an officer, recklessly endangering safety and bail jumping.
