
In 2018 the National Association of Broadcasters published a guide to help broadcasters prepare their facilities and operations so they can stay on the air during disasters such as hurricanes. Larry Wilkins, CPBE, director of engineering services for the Alabama Broadcasters Association, noted the return of hurricane season and reshared NAB’s tips, lightly edited: Radio and television stations play a unique role as first informers during disasters, providing breaking news alerts and round-the-clock reporting to keep their communities safe before, during and after. It is critical that broadcasters plan ahead to safeguard their facilities and staff in case of an emergency.
