  • More big boats in La Crosse this week, including first Viking cruise stop for 2025
    WIZMnews.com Riverfest may be done for this year, but La Crosse’s riverfront will still be active this week. A Monday morning stop by the Viking Mississippi cruise ship will be the first of several this year by that company. The Viking boat was supposed to be in La Crosse last week, but high water led to that visit being called off. The Mississippi is scheduled to be docked most of the day on Monday, until 5 p.m. That follows the visit made on Sunday by the American Serenade, which is scheduled to return on July 20th.   • Winona man suspected in Holmen death now jailed in La Crosse County
    WIZMnews.com A homicide suspect from southern Minnesota is now in the La Crosse County jail, days after being arrested for the death of a Holmen resident. Klaver Jacob Klaver of Winona was admitted to the La Crosse jail on Saturday, and is being held without bond for 1st degree homicide, in the alleged strangulation death of 37-year-old Josh Pigney. Police say Pigney was found dead at his Holmen residence a week ago. The 38-year-old Klaver was arrested and jailed in Winona on Wednesday night, but was later transported to a La Crosse hospital for emergency medical treatment. Pigney was found dead at his home on June 29th. He reportedly died from strangulation and blunt force trauma.
