  • USA Makes History With Its First Four-Goal Performance At Men’s World Cup
Things couldn't have gone much better for the United States in its World Cup opener. In the seventh minute of the United States' 4-1 win over Paraguay at Los Angeles Stadium on Friday, the Americans were gifted an own goal that gave them an early lead — so early that it's actually the third-fastest goal for the U.S. in World Cup history. Paraguay midfielder Damián Bobadilla was credited with the own goal. Weston McKennie was the last U.S. player to touch the ball in the run of play. The U.S. has scored a goal in the first 15 minutes of a World Cup match six times in history, with three coming against Paraguay (two in 1930 and one tonight). The two earliest goals for the U.S. in a home World Cup match have both been own goals: on Friday against Paraguay and against Colombia in 1994. Clint Dempsey holds the record for the fastest goal by a U.S. player at a FIFA Men's World Cup with a 30-second goal vs. Ghana at Brazil 2014. The U.S. has only lost one time at the World Cup when scoring first. Its only loss came against Spain in 1950. The U.S. extended its lead with a first-half brace by striker Folarin Balogun. He is the first American man to have multiple goals in a World Cup game since Bert Patenaude in 1930. Midfielder Gio Reyna capped things off in the eighth minute of stoppage time to give the U.S. its first-ever four-goal result at the World Cup. His goal is now the latest regulation goal for the U.S. in a World Cup match. [TheTopNews] Read More.

  • 2026 World Cup Odds: USA Surges After Huge Opening Win vs. Paraguay
The biggest sporting event North America has ever hosted is in full swing, and two of the co-hosts, Mexico and the United States, are off to a dream start. The U.S. men's national team followed up Mexico's opening match victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with one of its own on Friday. The USA had a dominant performance, beating Paraguay 4-1. Mexico kicked off the tournament with a decisive 2-0 victory over South Africa on Thursday. But the USA's odds to lift the trophy saw a great spike on Friday evening. The Stars and Stripes are now +4000 to win the World Cup after its opening match victory. Before the tournament, the USA was +5500 to win the tournament. Mexico, meanwhile, saw its odds to win the tournament climb from +5500 to +5000 following its win. With 100 matches remaining, Spain is currently the slight favorite to win the World Cup at +460, with France right on their heels at +470. Behind those two European powerhouses, England comes third on the oddsboard at +750 with Portugal (+800), Brazil (+900) and Argentina (+950) behind them. For the next 37 days, the 2026 FIFA World Cup is taking place across the USA, Canada and Mexico — all streaming on FOX One. The tournament will culminate at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19, 2026, with one nation lifting the trophy and forever etching its name into history.
