After three decades in the La Crosse County district attorney’s office, Jessica Skemp has been sworn in as La Crosse’s new municipal judge. New Municipal Judge Jessica Skemp speaks just after being sworn in. Skemp is a long-time prosecutor who ran unopposed for municipal judge in the April election. On Friday morning, she took the oath of office on Friday from Judge Elliott Levine in the La Crosse city council chambers, where municipal court is held. Skemp ran for the post after the previous municipal judge, Dennis Marcou, announced he would retire after 28 years. In a statement released by City Hall before Friday’s ceremony, Skemp said her top priority will be “to make sure that everyone who appears before the court feels heard and respected.” A few local judges in their robes had front-row seats at Friday’s ceremony. Assisting the new judge at the swearing-in were her husband Ted Skemp, who is also a La Crosse attorney, and their two children.
