The departure of one of the members of Onalaska’s Common Council leaves the city looking to fill the vacancy. District 3 Alderperson Larry Jiracek announced that he was leaving the council at the July 14 meeting. No reason was given according to the minutes of the meeting. The city is now accepting applications to fill the position for the remainder of the term which runs until the April 2027 election. People interested should submit a letter of interest and resume to the Onalaska City Clerk’s Office before noon on Thursday, September 3, 2026. The council will interview applicants at 5 p.m. on September 8 and make a decision on who to appoint at the council meeting later that evening. Applicants must live in District 3 in Onalaska and meet the qualifications required to serve under Wisconsin law.
