Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy bragged to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Thursday about taking 26,000 trucks “out of service because the drivers don’t speak English.” Appearing on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, Duffy was there to comment on a pair of Thursday lawsuits filed by a coalition of 21 Democratic attorneys general and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) challenging President Donald Trump and his administration’s demand for access to a database containing personal information on roughly 17 million commercial drivers. Maintaining that his department sought the records to ensure truck drivers are operating safely, Duffy alleged: Not only do [truck drivers] not speak English — many of them went to a sham driving school, so many of them aren’t qualified. They don’t have the skills and the knowledge to operate an 80,000 lb big rig on American roads, and so, uh, the [Department of Transportation], we are entitled to get all of, uh, the DMV files from all of the states. It goes back to the ’80s. I’ve asked all the states to provide that information to me. As you mentioned, 22 states — liberal states — have sued me to make sure I can’t get that information because they know that we’re gonna take illegals off American roads. And so what’s happening here is you have these liberal states actually siding with an illegal truck driver over the safety of an American citizen. It shows how perverse these radical leftists have become. And all we’re trying to do — listen. There’s a great debate happening on immigration. You and I share the same opinion with President Trump. This is something — this is basic safety, making sure that your roads are safe. But, uh, just to take a look back, we’ve taken 26,000 vehicles out of service because the drivers don’t speak English. We’ve taken 30,000 drivers off the roads because their licenses were illegally issued. We have partnered with ICE. We’re doing sting operations, over two-day periods of time, over multiple states.
