The co-hosts of Fox News’ The Five expressed support for one another as potential candidates to become President Donald Trump’s next press secretary on Thursday, with Greg Gutfeld cracking to Shannon Bream, “Rumor has it, you’re up for the job.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Wednesday that she plans to leave her role at the end of the month to spend more time with her newborn baby, with the president calling her move “a decision I totally understand and respect.” “Rumor has it, you’re up for the job,” Gutfeld told Bream. “They can’t afford me,” Bream responded. “I worry that she’ll come to work at Fox, and now we’ll have three of ’em,” Gutfeld said, rolling his eyes. Here, he’s referencing the network’s Kayleigh McEnany, who served as press secretary during Trump’s first administration, and Dana Perino, who filled the role under former President George W. Bush. Co-host Charlie Hurt was next to chime in, putting his hat in the ring for Bream. “Why?” he explained. “Because she’s a strong woman. And Donald Trump, what does he like to do more than anything else? Empower strong women. He surrounds himself with strong women who are very, very good at their jobs.” “Are you suggesting that Jessica [Tarlov] is gonna take the job?” inquired Bream. “I was kinda thinking it,” confirmed Hurt. “My hair is far too dark for that job,” countered Tarlov. “I picked [Bream] because she’s blonde,” added Gutfeld. “That was the only reason.” Tarlov continued, referencing Hurt’s previous comment about what the president likes, “Looking at beautiful women, and so Shannon would be a wonderful fit.” Moving on to co-host Emily Compagno, Gutfeld said, “I could see you as a dynamite press secretary, right? You were a professional cheerleader for the [Las Vegas] Raiders, defending one of the most dangerous teams on the planet. You also now work at Fox, so you have the talent stack.” “That’s the nicest you’ve ever —” Compagno attempted to reply, before Gutfeld interjected, “I’m just trying to get you off this show.” “To make room for Karoline,” Compagno hit back, with Bream defending her and saying that she “would be able to argue anything.” “Hot take here,” Gutfeld warned. “Job’s not hard.” “Okay, Greg’s up next,” Bream joked. “So is Jesse [Watters] gonna do it?” Tarlov asked.
