The start of United Airlines service to the La Crosse Regional Airport was supposed to happen in the next few days, but airport officials now say the new flights won’t begin until late October. LSE announced FAA restrictions will delay United service to and from La Crosse until October 25. Airport officials also noted passengers who have already booked travel with United will be contacted directly regarding rebooking options or refunds. The La Crosse airport message cites “operational capacity restrictions” imposed by the FAA at O’Hare Airport in Chicago for this summer. “While we know this is disappointing news for many in our community who were excited about the new service,” the airport posted, “this decision is tied to broader operational constraints at one of the nation’s busiest airports and is not a reflection of the strength or support of the La Crosse market.” United had planned to operate four nonstop daily flights between Chicago and the La Crosse airport, beginning on May 7. United was scheduled to become the third airline serving LSE, along with American Airlines and another recent addition, Allegiant Air, which launched its local service in February. The number of commercial passengers at the La Crosse airport in March was 5,189, the highest monthly total since September of 2022, when Delta still had flights through La Crosse. Also, the number of passengers in February, just over 4,700, was an 80 percent increase over the passenger total for the same month of 2025.
