One kid’s unscripted reply to a CNN reporter asking about NASA’s Artemis II launch has raked in millions of views and going massively viral after he perfectly summed up the excitement of the historic day. The boy attended Wednesday’s launch at Kennedy Space Center in Florida with a GoPro camera strapped to his NASA cap, after traveling to witness the first human-crewed mission to the moon in more than 50 years. As he stood waiting, a CNN reporter approached him to ask: “Why do you want to be here? Why do you love space? Why do you love being a part of history?” “We’re going back to the frickin’ moon, that’s why!” he exclaimed in reply. The moment spread quickly online, becoming a defining clip of the day’s coverage. The four-person crew consists of three Americans and one Canadian and will travel roughly 685,000 miles over a 10-day mission to orbit the moon before returning to Earth. The launch proceeded largely as planned, despite a late-stage technical issue, which engineers resolved before the launch window opened, clearing the mission for liftoff. Stephen Colbert left his audience in a stunned silence on The Late Show, Wednesday as he praised President Donald Trump’s televised national address – before smirkingly calling out “April Fools’!” The comedian’s remarks followed Trump’s first national address since the beginning of conflict with Iran, delivered live from the White House and lasting around 19 minutes. In the speech, the president said “core strategic objectives are nearing completion” and warned the US would “hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks,” adding: “We are going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong.” Opening the show with his usual monologue, Colbert began, “Folks, it was a big night on all the broadcast networks. Donald Trump at 9 o’clock gave a national prime time address. It was concise, intelligent, and brought the nation together with shared purpose.” The audience laughed awkwardly before the host broke character, declaring, “April Fools!” Colbert told viewers he had not watched the speech, noting that he was filming before it aired. He added a Passover-themed jab, saying the address fell on the first night of the holiday and recommending “having had four glasses of wine.” He also quipped that he “put lamb’s blood on my TV, so the speech would pass me by.” The host has long been a vocal critic of Trump, with a feud between the two stretching back years and public clashes that culminated after CBS announced last July that The Late Show would end following its current season in May. President Donald Trump delivered a major primetime address about the war in Iran on Wednesday, but not everyone was impressed. Trump spoke for 20 minutes in a speech that many hoped would offer some clarity about the conflict. Instead, the president only repeated previous public remarks about it. He reiterated that the war will take another two to three weeks, demanded Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and also called on other countries to find a way to reopen the vital waterway, through which 20% of the world’s oil flows. The president did not address the prospect of deploying soldiers, thousands of whom are either in or headed to the Middle East. Trump is reportedly mulling the seizure of Kharg Island, where Iran processes the vast majority of its oil exports. After the speech, Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) appeared on MS NOW, where Chris Hayes asked about potential ground forces. “On the question of the use of ground troops, the only thing that I felt I took away – and again, I could be telling myself a lie here because anything can change – it did seem like that was not the direction things were going, a ground invasion,” Hayes said. “Did you get that sense?” Moulton, a former Marine who served in Iraq, replied: Chris, I’m not a child psychologist, so I can’t understand the mind of Donald Trump. But the reality is that we… have thousands and thousands of paratroopers headed to the Middle East or already arrived right now, makes me incredibly concerned, you know? I’ve talked to some of their parents. I know what some of those Marines are thinking because I’ve been in those same shoes. I’ve been on ships headed to the Middle East. But even in Iraq, for all the problems with that war, at least there was a plan. At least Congress had voted on it. At least the American people had weighed in. At least the generals had come before Congress and put forward a plan. None of that exists today. And so, I think this could get a lot worse. We already saw oil futures spike, go much higher. Just during the course of his speech. But that’s just the price of oil. When more Americans start coming home in body bags, this is going to not only just get immeasurably worse for us, for our nation, for our… [TheTopNews] Read More.9 hours ago - ‘This War Is Going To Continue for Some Time’: Former NatSec Official Gives ...
Brett McGurk, the former White House Coordinator for the Middle East, gave a grim interpretation of President Donald Trump’s Wednesday night address, claiming it made him believe that “this war is going to continue for some time.” McGurk joined CNN’s The Source after the president finished his remarks, speaking with host Kaitlan Collins about Trump’s goals for the speech and its implications for the future of the US military conflict with Iran. Collins claimed the president wanted to lay out the reasons for the war in Iran to the American people, asking McGurk if he felt Trump had succeeded in making that case. “I thought he started with the necessity we talked about. You need necessity, the objective. Then, what’s the plan? I thought the necessity, laying out the bill of particulars on Iran, was fairly effective,” said McGurk to Collins. McGurk claimed that while the need for the war may have been made clear, the plan for the future of the conflict was not. “I thought when he laid out the objectives and the plan, I don’t think we heard too much,” said McGurk. “And my takeaway was that we might be in for an escalation of this war.” He went on to tell Collins that if viewers were waiting for a signal from the president that he was winding down the war, this speech did not deliver. “He said, if it’s not a deal, the enemy targets everything else he’d been talking about. So if we were– thought we might hear a de-escalatory speech, we’re going to wrap this up in a couple of weeks, I actually heard something quite different,” said McGurk. “He said he visits the families at Dover, and he said, ‘We must honor them by completing the mission.’ And then he basically threatened Iran that we’re going to prepare to send you back to the Stone Age. So I think this war is going to continue for some time. I mean, that’s what I heard.” Watch above via CNN.The post ‘This War Is Going To Continue for Some Time’: Former NatSec Official Gives Grim Response To Trump’s Iran Speech first appeared on Mediaite. President Donald Trump vowed that the U.S. would hit Iran “extremely hard over the next two to three weeks” in his address to the nation on Wednesday. Trump delivered a speech on the progress of the ongoing U.S. military operation in Iran, where he reiterated many of his previous claims about the war. The president told viewers that the conflict was set to come to a close “very shortly,” sharing the same timeline he discussed with reporters the previous day. “Thanks to the progress we’ve made, I can say tonight that we are on track to complete all of America’s military objectives shortly, very shortly,” he said. “We’re going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We’re going to bring them back to the Stone Ages [sic], where they belong.” The president repeated his claim that talks with Iran were ongoing and that those newly in charge of the country were “much more reasonable” than the previous leadership. He did not mention the alleged ceasefire he announced Iran had asked for on Wednesday morning. “In the meantime, discussions are ongoing. Regime change was not our goal. We never said regime change, but regime change has occurred because of all of their original leaders’ deaths,” he said. “They’re all dead. The new group is less radical and much more reasonable.” Trump also continued to issue his threat that if a deal was not reached, U.S. forces would destroy crucial Iranian energy infrastructure. Trump warned Iran in April that the country had 48 hours to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face this retaliation, before walking the threat back, then extending the deadline to ten days, while making another similar threat on Monday. “Yet, if during this period of time no deal is made, we have our eyes on key targets,” said Trump on Wednesday. “If there is no deal, we’re going to hit each and every one of their electric generating plants very hard and probably simultaneously.” Hours before Trump’s speech, Iran published a letter in which it claimed to have agreed to the terms of a proposed nuclear deal, which the U.S. then backed out of before launching its attacks. The letter also called on Americans to question the government’s true intention in starting the conflict, asking if they were “truly being served” by war.
