The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the quick actions of a semi driver who pulled a woman out of a burning vehicle likely saved her life. Both were involved in a crash Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Exit 28 off-ramp at Highway 16 and I-90. The sheriff’s office said the semi was crossing the overpass when the woman, who had exited the interstate and was stopped at the intersection, pulled out in front of the semi. Although the semi driver tried to avoid the car, the semi-trailer partially drove over the car and pushed it into a ditch. The car then caught fire. The semi’s driver was able to pull the woman from the vehicle. She went by ambulance to a La Crosse hospital with serious injuries. Both the off-ramp and Highway 16 were closed for three hours for the investigation and cleanup. The sheriff’s office hasn’t released the names of the people involved in the crash which remains under investigation.
