Ted Cruz (R-TX) has joined the chorus of Republicans who have bashed GOP candidate Bo French for complaining about a bunch of non-white students celebrating the University of Texas football team’s wild comeback victory against Ohio State. “Look, it was an idiotic tweet that he sent. I wish he hadn’t sent it,” Cruz said Tuesday, according to NBC News reporter Frank Thorp V. “And and I got to say, I am celebrating every student at UT, and I was proud to be there in Austin, and it was a hell of a win. Hook ‘em horns.” Cruz did not mention he was viciously booed while joining the ESPN College GameDay crew before the game, apparently. As for his response, it comes three days after French posted a pic on X of several students, seemingly of Indian and South Asian descent, partying at the Cotton Bowl. French was disgusted by it. “I heard UT graduation this year looked like this,” French said. “I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.” A slew of conservatives immediately condemned French, who is running to be the next Texas railroad commissioner, for the “racist” post. “This is the Republican nominee for statewide office,” Sen. The president has shrugged off fears about an AI doomsday scenario — where the technology goes rogue, stops answering to humans, and wipes out mankind — and scoffed at the idea of regulating the sector, despite calls from industry leaders like Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to do so. Trump said on Monday the fears about AI going off the rails were nothing more than a “HOAX,” and he expressed skepticism about why the top AI execs would suddenly call for regulation, adding that more laws would only trip up American companies in the AI race with China. He argued the best AI guardrail is already in place — having a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT” like himself in office. But what do the AI models think about it? Mediaite decided to ask them. Inspired by former Mediaite editor Colby Hall, who asked several top models what they thought about Trump’s claim, Mediaite asked ChatGPT, Claude, Google’s Gemini, and Grok about not only the president’s assessment, but also the recent doomsday proclamations from Musk and others, and whether government regulation is needed. The first big takeaway: all four models agreed Trump’s “HOAX” claim went too far. ChatGPT said it was “too strong and intellectually unhelpful,” Grok said it was “too blunt,” and Claude called it a “deliberate fabrication.” Gemini was relatively softer on it, saying the president was engaged in “standard political hyperbole.” Grok — the go-to model on Musk’s X platform — said the president was wrong to argue the worst-case AI scenarios are just as bogus as the claims he colluded with Russia’s Vladimir Putin in 2016. The model said there are legitimate reasons to be concerned, based on how fast the technology is developing. It answered: The underlying technical worry is not a hoax. Frontier labs themselves keep reporting models that plan, deceive, self-improve in limited ways, and do unexpected things. Recursive self-improvement, cyber autonomy, and bio-tooling are real research directions, not climate-style slogans. Calling that whole category “Russia hoax 2.0” collapses a hard, uncertain engineering problem into a culture-war punchline. CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig highlighted what he called a “notable contrast” in Attorney General Todd Blanche’s response to a question about reports surrounding Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding. Honig and Blanche were both former federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York. As the legal analyst noted at the beginning of his Tuesday appearance on CNN News Central, “I’ve known Todd Blanche for a long time.” The exchange Honig was reacting to unfolded during a press conference led by Blanche in the White House Rose Garden. It centered on a Monday ProPublica report that found much of the cost of Trump Jr.’s recent wedding was covered by a Russian oligarch with ties to Vladimir Putin. Lynch and Daniel Klaidman reported the FBI planned to relax the organization’s rules pertaining to vetting the agency’s applicants. The new rules state in part that applicants are now eligible to apply for positions at the FBI if they’ve been part of past bestiality or animal cruelty and the conduct took place before they turned 18. “Any polygraph changes reflect a clear difference between a disqualified applicant who has engaged in criminal behavior, versus an applicant who may be subject to further evaluation based on rare exigent circumstances,” an FBI spokesperson told CBS.
