  • BREAKING: Trump Vows to ‘Respond’ After Iran Shot Down US Helicopter
(AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta) President Donald Trump vowed on Tuesday to “respond” to Iran shooting down a U.S. Apache helicopter on Monday evening near the Strait of Hormuz. Trump, who has shown reluctance to return to full-scale military operations against Iran, wrote on social media, “I have just been informed by our Great Military that last night the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters while patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. There were two pilots involved, both are safe and uninjured. Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.” Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst reported on the downing of the helicopter earlier on Tuesday morning and offered some details about the unprecedented rescue of the pilots. We’re also tracking another major development. A U.S. Apache helicopter went down near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. Now, according to U.S. Central Command, in a statement, the soldiers were safely rescued within approximately two hours and are in stable condition. The cause of the incident is under investigation,” Yingst reported, adding: CENTCOM spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins confirmed to Fox News the U.S. crew members were rescued by an unmanned surface vehicle, a sea drone. This was an operational first for the U.S. Military, Hawkins told Fox News. Yingst noted at the time how the Apache went down was still unknown, but added that the incident endangers an already fragile ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran. “It does come as the ceasefire with Iran is holding and the region braces to see what comes next,” Yingst concluded. This is a breaking story and has been updated. The post BREAKING: Trump Vows to ‘Respond’ After Iran Shot Down US Helicopter first appeared on Mediaite. [TheTopNews] Read More.

  • Early June Features Several Strong North American E-skip Openings
The magic of the E-skip propagation for VHF long-distance signal hunters is that so much about it is unknown. So we’re often left with resorting to old axioms to figure out what kind of activity we might be in store for during the lion’s share of the season in the northern hemisphere, which is usually the months of June and July. My statistics professor would yell at me for offering, “we’re due,” as a reason to expect an uptick in activity this season, but, since I’ve been tracking these things, 2024 was the least active E-skip season I’ve observed, and while last year was better, it had long dormant periods. We’re also on the downswing of the current Solar Cycle, as James Careless has written about, and some observers believe that the downturn might have a positive correlation with E-skip activity. Again, speculation. But so far, the early returns have been positive on this season in North America. Here’s what one of my favorite DXers, Randy Zerr (KW4RZ) in Goldfield, Nev., received on June 5. These Savanna, Ga., signals are squarely double-hop receptions at over 1,900 miles. Using his Airspy SDR, he was able to record them all! June 8, meanwhile, featured nearly four hours of E-skip between the Great Plains and eastern United States, the type of opening I’ve not observed since the epic 2021 season. You can see all of the logs FMList users reported. Did you hear any of the E-skip? Send me an email and I’ll feature some catches in my next Signal Spot column. • I Have a Passion for Simplification
The author at a combined booster site in the Bay Area. “There are six transmitters and codecs in this rack, and nothing that isn’t essential.” This article is from the free ebook “Optimize Your Air Chain.” As we explore ways to optimize and improve the efficiency of our air chains, allow me to share a few thoughts and experiences around the idea of simplification.  Demands on a radio station air chain have changed a lot over the past couple of decades. It used to be that getting stereo audio to the listeners was all that was required. While it sometimes took a surprising number of boxes to accomplish this, the end product was relatively simple.  Then along came RDS, HD Radio, diversity delay adjustments, live traffic data, album art, remote studios, voice tracking, and a slew of other complications that, if we aren’t paying attention, can create rather complex air chains with many failure points. New technologies and the demands from our audiences require us engineers to think in a much more strategic manner when both planning and working with the modern air chain.  For me, one priority remains the same: Keep It Simple (Smarty?).  Simplicity begins by considering what’s truly most important. That goes back to the basics in radio: delivering audio to the listeners. Everything else is anchored to this foundation. Many years ago, I was working a project in Los Angeles. My goal was to get as close as reasonably possible to “five nines” uptime. A noble aim, one that I thought I could achieve by over-engineering each system.  I designed a web of interconnected and layered devices so that if any failed, the backup could be routed remotely or automatically into the air chain without a site visit.  What a great idea on the whiteboard.  What a mess in real life.  It quickly became very difficult to determine what was actually on the air and what was in standby. The need for numerous tallies, monitoring points and alarm triggers quickly grew to the point where the wiring was far more complicated than any other site I oversaw.  After months of headaches and plenty of downtime, we went back to isolated main and backup air chains with a simple A/B switch between diverse paths. The station seldom had another notable outage due to equipment failure.  This was a hard and expensive lesson, but a valuable one. It… [TheTopNews] Read More.

  • Here’s Who Trump Brought with Him to the NBA Finals
Mark Schiefelbein/AP President Donald Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday, and he brought with him an entourage composed of family and a few key members of his cabinet. The president was invited to the game by Knicks owner James Dolan. Throughout the game, the two could be seen sitting together in a suite. Trump was also joined in the suite by his granddaughter Kai Trump, who was seen standing next to him as he endured a wave of boos during the national anthem. After the first half of the game, the White House released a full list of the guests who joined Trump in the suite. The list included Vanessa Trump — Kai’s mother and the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. — U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, and White House Communications Director Steven Cheung. • Jerry Seinfeld Dishes to Pro-Trump Podcaster Adam Carolla On How ‘Fired Up’ ...
If you are like Adam Carolla and wonder if Larry David gets pretty “fired up” about politics when he’s having dinner with friends, Jerry Seinfeld confirmed that is indeed the case. But Seinfeld told Carolla on the Monday episode of his podcast that it’s no big deal, because his friend and Seinfeld co-creator is hilarious when he goes on his political rants. Carolla asked him about it after Seinfeld said him and David ate dinner together the night before. “But does Larry get fired up about politics and stuff when you socialize with him?” Carolla asked. “Yes, he does. But with Larry, everything is funny,” Seinfeld explained. “His angle, the things he notices are funny. He’s just the funniest, most talented guy I’ve ever met.” Carolla agreed with him on that. The two got onto the topic after Carolla said he recently bumped into David’s wife Ashley Underwood. “Ashley was telling me her politics are a lot different than Larry’s,” Carolla said. “And I was like ‘Well, how does that work? Because Larry seems pretty amped up about it. Like, how do you live with that person?'” Seinfeld said Carolla should get it, because “in marriage, we do have to adjust a little bit.” Carolla joked “that’s probably why I’m divorced,” which made Seinfeld chuckle. But Carolla said he gets it, because he’s been friends with Jimmy Kimmel for more than 30 years. Of course, Kimmel’s politics are much different than Carolla’s – in particular when it comes to President Donald Trump. Kimmel has had a feud going with the president for years, while Carolla supports Trump. But the two former hosts of The Man Show have remained friends, despite their political differences. “Adam and I, as you probably know, don’t agree much when it comes to politics,” Kimmel said last month at Carolla’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. “But I love him dearly. I’ve never worked with anyone funnier.” Watch above. The post Jerry Seinfeld Dishes to Pro-Trump Podcaster Adam Carolla On How ‘Fired Up’ Larry David Gets About Politics first appeared on Mediaite. • GOP Congressman Calls Out Trump’s Stalled Iran Peace Talks: Feels Like ‘Weâ€...
Republican Congressman Carlos Gimenez (FL) appears to be losing patience on the Trump administration’s peace talks with Iran, telling Fox Business host Stuart Varney on Tuesday that “I’m starting to feel like we’re Charlie Brown” and Iran keeps pulling back the football. Appearing on Varney & Co. on Tuesday morning, Gimenez was asked if he agreed with an op-ed that appeared in The Washington Post the day before, entitled, “Israel Fights While Trump Talks.” “Is Trump helping Iran by ordering Netanyahu not to hit Hezbollah?” Varney asked. Gimenez began by saying, “I hate to depart from my president, but actually I agree with it.” He then launched into the Peanuts-flavored analogy. “Look, I’m starting to feel like we’re Charlie Brown and Iran is Lucy and every time we go kick the ball, it’s been taken away. You know, we’re close to a deal, a day away, two days away from a deal, and it’s not happening. And so, if I were in Vegas right now, I’d be betting against in two days we’re gonna be right where we are today. I think that bad behavior deserves punishment, and unfortunately, the Iranians are exhibiting bad behavior, and they’re not suffering any consequences for that. He continued: “As you can tell, I’m a little more hawkish than the president would be.” Varney then asked if Gimenez believes Iran is winning, “because they’re playing for time, they’re getting some time, and they know that the midterms are coming and our president is under pressure.” “Is that the game they’re playing?” Varney pressed. What followed was another surprising answer: “Of course. I think that’s the game they’re playing, and I think what we need to do is take away their trump card, which is — pardon the pun, OK? — it’s the Straits of Hormuz and so, we need to get to the point where we start the Strait of Hormuz open again, with or without Iran’s help, take away that trump card, and every time that they give us a deadline or we give them a deadline and they don’t meet it on coming to our terms, then they’ve gotta suffer the consequences. And that’s the only thing that they understand.” Gimenez added that he believes Iran is “playing us.” “Right now, they think they’re playing us — I happen to agree with them — I think they are playing us,”… [TheTopNews] Read More.
