A former senior aide to Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner warned he “shouldn’t be a U.S. senator” in a blistering public takedown of her one-time boss published on the eve of Maine’s Democratic primary. Genevieve McDonald, who served as Platner’s political director during the early stages of his campaign, laid out her case in a Washington Post opinion piece, a month-by-month breakdown on her mounting concerns and resignation published Monday before Maine Democrats head to the polls to choose a challenger to Senator Susan Collins (R-ME). “Graham Platner is not someone who would be good for Maine or for the country,” McDonald declared. She wrote: “I quit the campaign in October, disturbed by what I learned about the candidate and concerned about his potential impact on the Democratic Party’s prospects in my home state. As Tuesday’s primary arrives, I want to make clear what transpired since August and why my concerns have only grown.” McDonald accused Platner of displaying “a pattern of dishonest behavior that is impossible to ignore,” arguing that successive controversies have undermined his assurances that no further damaging revelations would emerge. “Despite being exposed by a series of scandals beginning last October, he kept assuring voters and the Democratic Party that there were no more skeletons in his closet,” she continued. “Then more emerged – the latest, in recent days, have involved former girlfriends’ serious accusations of physical mistreatment.” Platner’s campaign has been dogged for months by scrutiny over past online comments, allegations surrounding a tattoo said to resemble a Nazi Totenkopf symbol, reports of sexting with women outside his marriage, and, most recently, accusations of abusive behavior made by a former girlfriend in The New York Times. Platner denied allegations of abuse. “I was willing to believe his explanations, I wanted to believe, until his flaws as a candidate became impossible to ignore,” McDonald wrote. She also claimed that after resigning, she was offered “$15,000 to sign a nondisclosure agreement,” an offer she said she declined. She further wrote that “over the past eight months, women have come to me with their own disturbing stories about Platner.” “The answer to a broken political culture is not to accept it. Demand better from those entrusted with power or seeking it. Enough is enough,” McDonald signed off.The post Graham Platner’s Ex-Campaign Chief Unloads in Scorching Washington Post Op-Ed Ahead of Primary: ‘Enough is Enough’ first appeared… [TheTopNews] Read More.2 hours ago - MS NOW Analyst Asks How Republican Steve Hilton Won in California If It’s So â...
MS NOW political analyst Eugene Robinson asked how President Donald Trump can call California “evil” and “crooked” because Spencer Pratt (R) didn’t advance in the Los Angeles mayoral race, even though Republican Steve Hilton just won enough votes to move on in the gubernatorial race. Robinson argued that Hilton’s finish in the top two in the race to succeed Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) wrecked Trump’s argument on Tuesday’s episode of Morning Joe. Co-host Willie Geist said Republicans “cannot contradict President Trump’s conspiracy theories” on elections because it would be political suicide — and would require a “drop of courage.” Robinson agreed, saying to be a successful GOP politician, you have to “parrot every lie” from Trump. He then argued that it included Trump’s complaints about California’s election process. “The thing I wonder about in California is if Spencer Pratt is somehow being deprived of all these votes and it’s crooked and it’s evil, then how did Steve Hilton, the Republican, manage to make it into the runoff?” Robinson asked. “How did that happen? And obviously those two things can’t coexist.” Robinson continued, saying, “This is all made up, this is all performative” from Trump. He then sounded a bit worried, saying the “big question” now is whether Trump is just “bloviating” or if he’s “setting up the country for the midterms?” In particular, Robinson wondered if Trump will try to “deny” Democrats control of the House or Senate. His comments on the California elections comes a day after Trump fumed about Pratt falling behind Democratic socialist Nithya Raman in the LA mayoral race; Pratt had a cozy lead after Election Night, but Raman surged in the days after as mail-in ballots were counted. Trump said it was “not possible” for Pratt to lose his 40,000-vote lead legitimately — and then warned Californians that the state will try to screw Hilton next. (He has not called the state “evil” like Robinson said, but he has said it is “crooked.”) A bit later on Monday, Decision Desk HQ projected Hilton would secure the second spot in California’s primary and go against ex-HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra (D) in the November election. President Donald Trump was confronted by a reporter on the “reception he got from New Yorkers at the Knicks game — where he was lustily booed — and claimed it was “amazing.” The president was already taking heavy criticism over his attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals when it was announced that fans would have to show up two hours early for a TSA-style screening and a 10-square-block blockade went up hours before that. When Trump appeared on the Jumbotron during the National Anthem, the fans loudly booed the president — and many went on to blame him when he presided over a 115-111 defeat to the San Antonio Spurs, snapping a 13-game, 46-day winning streak. Trump — accompanied by Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and EPA chief Lee Zeldin — spoke to reporters for about 17 minutes after touching down at JFK International Airport. The president and his cabinet friends had a wildly different take on the game. Zeldin called it “awesome” and said the “energy was amazing,” and when a reporter later asked Trump about the reception, he responded similarly: EPA ADMINISTRATOR LEE ZELDIN: Well, you know, the Spurs, they have some good players. Wembeyama, Castle did well tonight, but I’m still going with the Knicks. I think that they’re gonna pull it off. And Mr President, it was awesome to be able to spend the night with you. The energy was amazing. Jim Dolan was a was a great host. … REPORTER: Speaking of New York, did you see Mayor Mamdani and the game? PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I did not, no. REPORTER: What did you think of the reception of Gotham’s Knicks fans tonight? PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I thought great. I mean, I thought it was amazing actually–. You mean when they had the camera on me. I thought it was very good, yeah. It was certainly amazing. It was, it was, I think mostly cheers. It was, it was loud and it was very enthusiastic. MSNBC’s Morning Joe crew mocked President Donald Trump on Tuesday after viral footage from his NBA Finals courtside appearance on Monday night sparked speculation that the president briefly fell asleep while watching the action. Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, when the New York Knicks hosted the San Antonio Spurs. His appearance drew attention both inside and outside the arena, with heightened security measures, causing disruptions around the venue, and fans loudly booing when he appeared on the arena’s jumbotron. During Tuesday’s show, however, co-host Jonathan Lemire referenced the reception Trump received at the game before turning to video clips that circulated widely online during the second half. As Lemire joked about the Knicks’ loss in Trump’s presence, laughing at show notes which underlined there was “no evidence of correlation” between the two, co-host Mika Brzezinski interjected with a different question. “Did he fall asleep?” she asked. “There is footage!” Lemire replied. “The New York Post, not exactly a –” Before he could finish, Brzezinski pushed back in disbelief: “He did not shut down New York and disrupt this game to fall asleep at it.” Lemire continued: “The New York Post Twitter account has footage of Trump pretty clearly falling asleep sometime in the second half.” Brzezinski remained playfully skeptical, invoking one of Trump’s longtime political attacks against former President Joe Biden: “No, it can’t be. Not with all that Sleepy Joe stuff. I mean, you can’t.” “Well, he managed to find a way,” Lemire responded. The clip at the center of the discussion showed Trump seated in a suite alongside Knicks owner James Dolan and his granddaughter, Kai Trump. In the footage, the president appeared largely motionless as play unfolded below, with critics arguing he appeared to be dozing off while supporters dismissed the claims as overblown. Questions about Trump’s energy and age have surfaced periodically during his second term, with critics pointing to previous similar moments in Cabinet meetings, public briefings, and ceremonial events. The White House has repeatedly rejected such suggestions. Jae C. Hong/AP photo Paramount Skydance accused Netflix of mounting a “scorched-earth” behind-the-scenes “campaign” to undermine its proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in a new letter sent to the Justice Department. In the letter, dated June 5 and obtained exclusively by Politico, Paramount’s chief legal officer, Makan Delrahim, alleged Netflix was attempting to derail the transaction. “Netflix’s panic-level response and scorched-earth campaign to try and poison regulators and other stakeholders against the transaction shows just how seriously Netflix takes Paramount as a scaled competitor,” Delrahim wrote. Netflix has also sought to convince stakeholders that Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox harmed production and labour prospects, according to Delrahim. He argued that assessment ignores broader industry disruptions, including the Covid-19 pandemic. The allegations come as Paramount responded to concerns raised by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Politico reported, which urged antitrust officials earlier this year to block the merger unless protections are put in place for workers. The union argued the combination of Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery “poses a direct threat to film and television workers nationwide” and warned against potential job losses. “Paramount acquiring WBD will not reduce work opportunities for the Teamsters or other organized labor,” Delrahim wrote in the letter to the DOJ, arguing the merger would instead create new opportunities for union workers and boost content production. He continued: “Paramount’s content strategy aligns directly with the Teamsters’ interests. More films and series in production means more call sheets, more location days, more transportation, casting, and catering work.” “The Transaction’s positive impacts on organized labor flow naturally from the business logic that drives the underlying deal. Paramount wants to combine with WBD to create a stronger, more efficient competitor that will operate at scale and take on Netflix and the other streaming giants,” he added. The letter marks one of Paramount’s most direct public efforts to frame opposition to the merger as being driven by Netflix, which exited the bidding process for Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this year. The merger remains under review by the DOJ and California Attorney General Rob Bonta, who has previously said approval is “not a done deal.”The post Paramount Accuses Netflix of ‘Scorched-Earth’ Campaign to ‘Poison’ Warner Bros.
