- ‘Crazy Nonsense!’ Bill O’Reilly Says Republicans Are ‘Almost as Bad as t...
Bill O’Reilly went off Republicans for being “almost as bad” as Democratic politicians at selling the U.S. government as the cure to all of society’s woes, rather than encouraging citizens to work hard and handle their issues on their own. O’Reilly argued during a Monday appearance on NewsNation that the country — and the GOP in particular — needs to put a renewed emphasis on the “individual American.” He said men like his father worked their butts off after World War II to buy homes and move up in society, but politicians have now ditched that mindset to peddle fake promises about how the government can help citizens get ahead. O’Reilly said it was a bogus notion that needs to be scrapped ASAP. “If we reverted back to the after-World War II mentality, we wouldn’t have these social problems — or most of them — because it was a different mindset,” O’Reilly said. “That’s what the Republicans should be selling! Instead of all this crazy nonsense that, you know, they’re almost as bad as Democrats.” O’Reilly’s advice for Republicans comes just a day after he said the party and President Donald Trump have a “major problem” in Texas, if you look at how Ken Paxton (R) is polling against Democrat James Talarico. A moment earlier during his NewsNation appearance, host Leland Vittert said Democrats were the only ones talking about Americans “feeling so left behind.” He then asked, “How are Republicans so blind to that?” O’Reilly said the host was generalizing before saying much of what Democrats are talking about is nothing more than lip service. He pointed to the focus on “affordability,” which he said is always used against Trump but never used in States like California, which are run “top to bottom” by Democrats. “You see any affordability in California? Anything? No, all right. It’s a bunch of BS!” O’Reilly said. “The government is not going to give you the resources to live a positive life. Accept it! You have to do it!” Watch above. AP Photo/Andrew Harnik Preeminent First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams had a stark warning about President Donald Trump, calling him the “most threatening president to free speech, free press, [and] the First Amendment that we’ve ever had.” Abrams, the father of Mediaite founder and owner Dan Abrams, spoke out during Monday’s episode of the Law and Disorder Podcast with Stephen Rohde and Maria Hall, sharing his perspective on freedom of speech and freedom of the press (relevant section starts around the 27:58 mark). As Rohde asked where he would place Trump in the rogues’ gallery of U.S. Presidents who have gone after free press and free speech,” Abrams said Trump was No. 1 — “no contest.” “I think he is the most threatening president to free speech, free press, the First Amendment that we’ve ever had,” Abrams said of the president. “I mean, there are so many different ways, and you’ve outlined many of them. Another that I think about a lot — lawyers, you know, going after lawyers, a serious effort by an American president to bar lawyers who had represented people who sued him in his first term from entering courthouses.” He added: “There are so many things that, you know, one might have thought and maybe characterized as unlikely or exaggerated or really, I mean, you really shouldn’t make predictions of that sort. It has been worse, I think, than any of us, certainly, in and around this field had anticipated. It’s very dangerous. We have two years more to go, and two years is an eon when you’re talking about potential First Amendment threats.” When asked by Hall how free speech advocates can make a better case for defending speech, “even that speech that we may hate and find objectionable,” Abrams replied in part, “How do you persuade people, how important it is, to protect even Nazi speech? We’re the only country that does that. “And if we continue to do that, we’re more likely to continue to at least protect the speech of people who are critical of our government. Because without it, what almost happened, you know, when there was an effort to shut up and to punish certain critics of President Trump.” Listen above via the Law and Disorder Podcast. The post Floyd Abrams Warns Trump Is ‘Most Threatening President to Free Speech…We’ve Ever Had’: ‘Very Dangerous’ first appeared on Mediaite. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) grilled Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel on the agency’s decision to include bestiality in new, looser hiring rules — at one point asking, “So you disqualified the animal?” The questioning Tuesday came as Patel sat for an annual oversight hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where ranking Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin (IL) accused Patel of having “turned it upside down” after Patel insisted the new rules were meant to help trafficking victims. Patel’s come under serious criticism for loosening agency hiring rules, removing automatic disqualification against hiring those who have paid for sex; stolen from an employer; and those who have engaged in bestiality or animal cruelty. Kennedy got into the nitty-gritty of the reasoning behind the new rules, saying, “I’m really trying to understand:” JOHN KENNEDY: OK. What about the bestiality ? KASH PATEL: Same thing because the regs wrote it up in a fashion before I arrived that addressed prostitution, bestiality and trafficking. They were there before I got there. KENNEDY: They tell me what it said before it. PATEL: It automatically disqualified any individual who participated on either side of it. Obviously, we are never going to hire the criminal. KENNEDY: Side of what? The bestiality? PATEL: Yes. KENNEDY: So you disqualified the animal? PATEL: Well, I don’t think… We have great canines, but we’re not going to- KENNEDY: I understand, I’m trying to understand why you did this. Have you? This is not directed at you, Mr. Director. And I understand the game. People try to make you look bad. We do the same thing when when the other party is in office and all of this stuff has really hurt the FBI, it’s really hurt the FBI. So I’m trying to get to the bottom of this. Why would you, why would you in light of the context and what we’re going through and we’re having a tough time attracting agents, good quality agents we all can trust because so many people, fairly or unfairly think that in order to be an FBI agent now, your political point of view matters. Why would you even get into bestiality? PATEL: We are not into bestiality, but a lot of these individuals– KENNEDY: I know you’re not, but you changed. You changed– PATEL: But I’m trying to explain it. KENNEDY: You changed the qualifications and mentioned bestiality.
