- Bill Maher Invites Mike Pence to Get High as F*ck With Him on Podcast
Comedian and pundit Bill Maher invited former Vice President Mike Pence to come on his Club Random podcast and get super-high with him, as is the custom. On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the interview guest was former Vice President Mike Pence, 48th Vice President of the United States and author of “What Conservatives Believe: Rediscovering the Conservative Conscience.” The panel guests were Senator Chris Murphy, Democratic senator from Connecticut and author of the new book “Crisis of the Common Good: The Fight for Meaning and Connection in a Broken America”; and Susan Rice, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, former U.S. National Security Advisor, and former Director of the Domestic Policy Council. Maher wrapped up the interview by expressing understanding for abortion opponents and asking if the abortion pill should be outlawed — then extending the blunt invitation: FORMER VP MIKE PENCE: It’s been a disappointment to me and other pro-lifers that this administration has turned a blind eye to that issue entirely. In fact, it’s appointing an abortion rights supporter to lead the Health and Human Services Department. So it was part of the impetus for me writing what conservatives believe, because I really do believe that, at the end of the day, the Republican Party ought to offer a choice, not an echo. Look, I never begrudge anybody, you included, of having liberal views. That’s what America is all about. You can believe what you believe. I’ll believe what I believe. And as long as we conduct each other with the golden rule, we’ll find our way forward. BILL MAHER: I feel like you are the standard for me because I like of all the people Challenge myself and be friendly with you were probably as far on the other side as me and I hope we can keep that up. I want you to do Club Random, my podcast, and get super high with me. Would you do that? We’ll just kick it. FORMER VP MIKE PENCE: I’ll do the podcast! BILL MAHER: You’ll think about it. All right, thank you. Mike Pence, everybody. Thank you, Mr. Vice President, and good luck with the book. CNN host Michael Smerconish slammed House lawmakers for passing a war powers resolution that would theoretically severely restrict President Donald Trump’s ability to continue his war with Iran. “The vote was 215 to 208. Four Republicans broke ranks,” Smerconish said on Saturday’s show. “Thomas Massie of Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Tom Barrett of Michigan, Warren Davidson of Ohio. This gave Democrats the margin they needed to pass a war powers resolution, directing the president to remove U.S. forces from hostilities unless Congress authorizes continued action.” “It was the fourth time that critics of the war had sought to end it,” he continued. “The first three resolutions gathered some Republican support, but they fell short. This one didn’t, and cheers erupted in the House chamber when the result was announced. My hunch is that they were also elated in Tehran.” Smerconish said it was doubtful that the resolution would pass the Senate, “And even if it did, President Trump will veto any measure that ever reaches his desk.” And although Smerconish criticized the Trump administration for never offering a “coherent rationale” for starting the war, he argued that the signal of disharmony the vote sent to Iran puts the U.S. at a disadvantage. “Here’s what worries me: Tehran is watching, and what they see is exactly what they’ve been counting on,” Smerconish said, continuing: An American public growing restless, a Congress fracturing, a president whose poll numbers are sagging as gas prices climb. A Fox News poll found 60% of Americans oppose the war. The conflict has cost taxpayers over $100 billion. Thomas Massie was direct about the kitchen table politics driving Republican defections. He said, “People are tired of this. They’re tired of $5 a gallon gas and $6 a gallon diesel, and fertilizer we can’t afford to put on our fields in Kentucky.” Smerconish argued that, “To end this war, let’s declare it,” and cited Fitzpatrick’s comments following the vote: “He said, ‘We’re past the 60 days, so you have two choices. You either follow the law or you change the law. You can’t violate the law. That’s not an option.'” “It’s hard to argue with that,” Smerconish added. President Donald Trump went on a lengthy riff about the renovations he’s undertaken, including the area between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington “you know, that beautiful spire!” In addition to his now-billion-dollar ballroom, the Reflecting Pool has become a consistent focus of the president, as have other expensive renovations to monuments and fountains around the District of Columbia. Trump traveled to Wisconsin for an event that was dubbed a “Roundtable on American Agriculture,” but which featured many of the elements associated with Trump rallies. One such element was a lengthy “weave” on the renovation spree he’s been focused on: PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: And we’re just off a very big success in Washington, D.C. We had — it doesn’t sound like much, but Washington, D.C., was not properly managed or kept. We had 22 fountains. None of them worked for the last 50 years. None of them. They were graffiti-strewn. I did it the inexpensive way. Why should we have a screen? Everybody here has good vision. I want to show you something. Look at this. I’m going to show you the cheap way, okay? We don’t want to bring screens. It costs too much money. Look at that. That’s before and after. Look at that. Look at that. Can anybody see that? That’s before. That’s our nation’s capital. That’s what it — look at this graffiti all over it, filthy, disgusting stone. The stone was all horrible. And look over there. That’s before and after. Then we had the reflecting pond, 2,500 feet massive, longer than a building. We have — we have a stat here that’s sort of great. Can you guys see this okay? Because I’m too cheap to put up, like, a projector. Look. So that’s the pond, if we’re standing up. Here’s your Sears Tower, Empire State Building, World Trade Center. Look. It’s double and triple the size in terms of area. So it would have cost $400 million, Ron, to fix. It would have taken four years. And they were getting ready. Doug Burgum has done an amazing job. And I said, you know, rather than doing that, they were going to put stone down, big stone, granite, wonderful. But it all leaks because you have joints. So being a very good builder, I said, you know what? I built a lot of swimming pools, many, many swimming pools. Every time I do a development, I do swimming pools. I know… [TheTopNews] Read More.24 hours ago - Bill Maher Bashes Acts Like ‘C Plus C Music Factory’ For Dumping Trump 250 E...
Comedian and pundit Bill Maher claimed that acts like “C Plus C Music Factory” dropping out of President Donald Trump’s “Freedom 250″ concert series makes Democrats look like they don’t love America.” On Friday night’s edition of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the interview guest was former Vice President Mike Pence, 48th Vice President of the United States and author of “What Conservatives Believe: Rediscovering the Conservative Conscience.” The panel guests were Senator Chris Murphy, Democratic senator from Connecticut and author of the new book “Crisis of the Common Good: The Fight for Meaning and Connection in a Broken America”; and Susan Rice, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, former U.S. National Security Advisor, and former Director of the Domestic Policy Council. During the panel discussion, Maher derided the acts who dropped out (C+C Music Factory [pronounced “C and C Music Factory”] declined but group member Freedom Williams expressed openness to performing) — but Sen. Murphy explained that the artists initially believed event was nonpartisan: BILL MAHER: Okay, let me ask another issue. There is something called the Great American State Fair Festival that was planned. Now this is not the same thing as the UFC event on the White House lawn. Don’t get them. AMB. SUSAN RICE: Or the race car track going around the city. BILL MAHER: Yes, but there’s lots of exciting stuff in Washington going on. No, the UFC thing. Look, we have a redneck president. I’m sorry. We’re just going to have to get used to–. AMB. SUSAN RICE: From Manhattan. BILL MAHER: From Manhattan, a redneck–. He just does redneck things. OK, this is one of the things I don’t give a shit about. But this other thing was not planned as a specific Trump thing or a specific MAGA thing. And they had some acts lined up, not the greatest. The Commodores. Morris Day and the Time, they were pretty good. AMB. SUSAN RICE: Commodores were good in the day. BILL MAHER: Very good, very, yes, that’s sure, that, that is Lionel Ritchie, right? AMB. SUSAN RICE: Yeah. BILL MAHER: Okay. Well, he’s not with them anymore. Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Young MC, Cc, C plus C, Music Factory, Milli Vannilli, I would not have left them on. SENATOR CHRIS MURPHY (D-CT): I think it was just back — I think it was just Vanilli. BILL MAHER: Right, yes, it was this, right, because the other member discredited for… [TheTopNews] Read More.1 day ago - Pete Hegseth Takes Shot at NATO In D-Day Speech: ‘Capable Allies Must Be Right...
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used the 82nd anniversary of D-Day to take a shot at NATO and European immigration policies in a speech meant to honor fallen allied troops at the Normandy American Cemetery in France on Saturday. More than 2,500 Americans died while storming the beaches of Normandy in the D-Day operation that marked the beginning of the end of the Nazi regime and fascism in Europe. The Trump administration has long criticized NATO for failing to enthusiastically uphold their end of the bargain to defend allies against aggression, which he hinted at in his speech. “The men buried here fought in a war-fighting alliance where every partner brought its full measure of industry, courage, and sacrifice, not empty slogans, not lavish summits, not communiques — real allies doing real things, taking real losses for a shared cause worth fighting and dying for. Each nation pulled its weight. Each nation bled,” Hegseth said. He added, “America will lead, and we must. But capable allies must be right there with us, shoulder to shoulder, in the breach when it matters. In the years since these beaches, much of the West, in some places, in some quarters, and in some capitals, grew comfortable. We forgot that freedom is not free. We forgot that peace is not wished into being, it is bought with purpose, with honor, and with strength.” Hegseth continued: The men who landed on these beaches knew this. The question we ask ourselves is, do we? It’s past time we remember what they knew. Their legacy demands far more than quiet reflection. It requires our active vigilance. Sadly, today, different European beaches are stormed by different dangerous ideologies, which is in Spain, in Italy, in Greece, and Bulgaria. Boats and men arrive. When will European capitals do something about that invasion? Or is it too late? I pray not. And I believe not. The men who fought and died here restored freedom to Europe. That freedom must be maintained by this generation of leaders and warfighters, or what they fought for was merely temporary. As our great President Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. You don’t pass it to the next generation in the bloodstream. It must be defended by each and every generation.” We stand by our allies, and we expect our allies capable and ready to stand alongside… [TheTopNews] Read More.1 day ago - ‘Who Throws a Better Party Than Trump?’ Vanilla Ice Can’t Wrap His Head Ar...
Vanilla Ice can’t wrap his head around fellow musicians cancelling on President Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 concert, exclaiming, “Who throws a better party than Trump?” Vanilla Ice, real name Robert Van Winkle, joined Kayleigh McEnany on Fox News’ Saturday in America and said he is “super proud” to participate in Trump’s event even as multiple other artists have fled the event, including Bret Michaels, Martina McBride, and others. The Freedom 250 event is part of what is being called The Great American State Fair and it’s one of a series of events set to celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday. Some of the musicians who have dropped out of their planned performances have accused event coordinators of selling it as more non-partisan than it is. Trump lashed out at musicians who dropped out and even floated simply turning the concert into a MAGA rally, but Ice appears still set to perform. The Ice Ice Baby rapper argued on Saturday that the event is non-partisan and the music is simply meant to bring people together to celebrate the country. He also praised Trump parties as “classy” and “fun” and said that should be another incentive to take part. Ice said: It’s crazy that all the attention is coming down on all this event and everything because I’m honored and just super proud. My mom is proud and everybody I know is like, this is awesome. And then there’s some people that, you know, are bailing out and all this stuff and I’m like, why? You know this will be the greatest concert on the planet. We’re turning 250 years [old]. This is, let’s celebrate the country that we’re born and raised in. What’s wrong with being patriotic? You know, and they said, oh because Trump’s putting it on. I’m like, so who throws a better party than Trump? Man, I’ve been to a lot of them. That guy knows how to throw a real party and they’re classy, they’re great, they’re fun, and just over the top, and amazing. So I’m like, even better. So I don’t get it. The rapper argued musicians should be put on a “pedestal” when it comes to politics. He said: I know that there’s a snow globe out there and the world is kind of shaken up on their beliefs politically and different things like that. But this isn’t something that I think… [TheTopNews] Read More.1 day ago
